Terms of Use
Checking is free and happens before you pay. Whether a document office accepts the photo is their decision, not ours.
These terms govern your use of TotShot — the app and totshot.app — operated by HakkApps, LLC, a company registered in Delaware, USA. Using TotShot means you agree to them.
1. What TotShot is
TotShot helps you take a child's document photo at home. You pick a country and a document; the app guides the capture, our servers measure the result against the requirements that authority publishes, replace the background, correct the light and return a file sized for that document — to print or to upload.
2. Who can use it
You must be 18 or over to hold an account, and you must be the parent or legal guardian of the child you photograph — or have that guardian's permission. This is the one rule we cannot check for you, and the one we ask you to take seriously.
An account is personal. Keep your sign-in to yourself; what happens under your account is your responsibility.
3. Credits and payment
TotShot is a one-time purchase, never a subscription. You buy credits in packs, inside the App Store or Google Play purchase sheet, at the price that store shows you in your own currency. Credits do not expire.
One credit turns a shot into the finished, print-ready file. Shooting and checking cost nothing — a credit is spent only on a result.
The purchase itself is a transaction with Apple or Google under their terms, and refunds of money are handled by them. If something goes wrong, write to support@totshot.app anyway: we will help, and we would rather hear about it than not.
When you ask Apple for a refund, Apple may ask us what became of the purchase before it decides, and by using TotShot you agree that we may answer. We answer with a summary — how much of the pack was spent, whether the finished photos were delivered, the lifetime value of your purchases and refunds as a range, and whether we think the refund should be granted. We say it should whenever you did not spend what you bought. Never your photographs, and no personal data beyond the store's own identifier for the purchase. The Privacy Policy sets it out field by field.
4. If processing fails, the credit comes back
A credit is reserved when processing starts and released automatically on any failure, including one that is entirely ours. A retry never charges you twice.
5. What we do not promise
TotShot is an independent service. HakkApps, LLC is not a government body and is not affiliated with, authorised by or endorsed by any passport office, immigration service or other issuing authority. Where this site or the app names one — or names a document such as a Green Card — it does so to identify the requirements your photo is measured against, nothing more.
We build to what the issuing authority publishes, in that authority's own words, and the app tells you which kind of rule you are standing on: written down, not written down — so we apply the adult rule — or left to the official at the counter.
Final acceptance is always the authority's decision. TotShot does not guarantee that any office will accept any photo, and a rejection is not a defect in the service. What we do guarantee is that you find out what we measured before you pay, and that we say plainly when a rule is not ours to know.
Where an authority photographs applicants itself, or accepts only a studio photo, the app says so and will not sell you a credit you cannot use.
6. Your photos stay yours
You keep every right in the photographs you take. You give us a limited licence to store and process them for one purpose: producing, checking and delivering your file, and keeping it for as long as your retention setting says.
We do not publish them, do not license them to anyone, and do not use them to train any model. What is stored, for how long, and how to erase it is set out in the Privacy Policy.
7. What we do to the image
We replace the background with the colour the document requires, correct white balance and exposure, and resize and crop to the published geometry.
We do not retouch, reshape or beautify a face. The result is your photograph, processed to a specification — not a picture of a child who does not exist.
8. Fair use
You agree not to:
- photograph a child who is not yours and whose guardian has not agreed;
- use bots, scrapers or automated systems against the service;
- share, sell or transfer your account;
- work around credit limits, rate limits or security measures;
- use TotShot for anything unlawful, including a document application you are not entitled to make.
9. Availability and changes to the service
The document catalog is updated from our servers, so the list of what TotShot supports changes without an app update — documents are added, and a rule that an authority rewrites is rewritten here too. We may change, add or withdraw features, and we may suspend an account that breaks these terms.
The service is provided as it is. We keep it running as well as we can, and we do not promise it is never unavailable.
10. Deleting your account
You can delete your account in the app at any time. It erases everything we hold for you — see the Privacy Policy. Unused credits are destroyed with it and are not refunded, so use them first if you have any.
11. Liability
We are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, and our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before it.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and nothing here takes away the consumer rights you have where you live.
12. The store you installed from
Apple and Google have their own terms covering the licence to install the app and the payment you make to them. Those govern that relationship; these terms govern the service itself. Neither store is a party to these terms and neither is responsible for the service.
13. Changes to these terms
The effective date at the top is the version you are reading. If we change something material we will say so by email or in the app; continuing to use TotShot afterwards means you accept the new version.
14. Contact
Questions about these terms, a refund, or anything else: support@totshot.app. It is read by a person and every message is answered. Formal notices can be sent by post to the address below.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States.
They are published in English and in Russian. The English version is the one that governs; the translation is there to be read, not to be argued from.
